Almeria Tourist Attractions

Almeria, Spain is surrounded by beautiful nature, including the Cabo de Gata and Nijar Natural Park with some areas only reachable from the Sea, the Tabernas Desert, and the alpine mountain of Sierra Nevada and the Arroyo del Palancón National Park are located less than two hours from the city. Whether you want to spend your time on beautiful beaches, climbing and sliding in ravines, go horseback riding in the desert, or visit a Wild West Theme park, there is something for you to do here. We have gathered some of the adventures found on getyourguide.com in a brief list to give an overview. All adventures listed are available in English.

Cabo de Gata: Kayaking and Swimming Excursion

Explore the magnificent Cabo de Gata and Nijar Natural Park, one of Spain's most pristine areas, on this excursion. The experience is around 3 hours long and it begins before embarking out on the Mediterranean Sea with participants learning basic paddling and kayaking techniques, as well as hearing the safety instructions.

After the theoretical mini-course the group will embark on their journey in a double kayak, which will be provided along with the paddle and a vest, where the participants will see a number of coves and rock formations that are not accessible from land and that can only be seen from the sea view. The group will navigate in and out of rocky caves, get close up to volcanic cliffs, learn about the geology and the wildlife of the natural park, which is, due to ecological, anthropological, geological, and historical significance, one of Spain's most protected areas.

The group will stop to go swimming in a hidden cove in the marine nature reserve before paddling back to where the journey started.

The excursion departs from different locations depending on the wind. Participants will be informed via Whatsapp the day before the excursion which location to meet at.

Included in the excursion is a bottle of fresh water, the theoretical mini-course, the double kayak, paddles, and vest, as well as the live tour commentary (in Spanish and/or English), insurance, and FHD + quality photo album that is downloadable on the supplier's website. There is also a satellite support boat available, and goggles and snorkel tubes are available upon request.

This excursion is not suitable for persons who cannot swim or paddle.

Transfer to and from the meeting point is not provided. Make sure to bring sunglasses, sun hat and sunscreen. An operating Whatsapp number is required upon booking.

Almeria Like a Local: Customized Private Tour

This customized private tour of Almeria allows the participants to either leave it up to the local guide to plan an insightful introduction to the city or to customize the itinerary to fit their own personal choices. The tour duration is between 2 and 6 hours depending on the itinerary, and the language options are Spanish or English.

The local guide can either meet the participants in the hotel lobby or outside their Airbnb, or at a different central location of personal choice.

Participants get to experience Almeria in a personal way through the eyes of a local and can choose to get familiar with a specific neighbourhood, perhaps the one where the accommodation is set, find out the easiest ways to move around the city, and the best places to eat, and of course there are the hidden gems that only, or at least mostly, locals know about.

The local guide will share their knowledge about local events, cultural differences and what it is like to be local in Almeria through interesting conversations during the tour.

After the tour has ended participants will feel more at home, be more comfortable at navigating the city, and have more confidence on where to go to make the stay in Almeria more relaxed and fun.

This is a walking tour so make sure to wear comfortable shoes. Sunscreen, a sunhat, and sunglasses are recommended. The local guide and the customized itinerary are included in the price, but expenses such as entrance fees, tips and gratuities, meals and drinks, transportation, optional activity costs and other personal expenses are not included. Entrance fees and transportation costs for the local guide also need to be covered by the participants.

Cabo de Gata: Tour of 5 Beaches by Yacht Motorboat

See the unique view of Cabo de Gata - Nijar Nature Reserve from the sea and discover the best beaches of the area on this 2-hour long excursion. The coastal cruise departs from the traditional fishing port of Carboneras and will start off by sailing to la Cala del Corral and las Salinicas. This is followed by Playa de los Muertos and its crystal-clear waters and volcanic cliffs before continuing to navigate the Cabo de Mesa Roldan where participants get to see the fossilized coral reef and the Mesa Roldán Lighthouse.

The cruise then continues on to Cala Puente, Cala, Sorbas, and Cala Castillo before arriving in the small fishing town of Agua Amarga. The best of this small town is from out on the sea.

The boat will drop anchor at the secluded Cala de Emmedio where participants get to swim and snorkel in the crystal-clear waters before it's time to return back to the Carboneras port.

The tour is available in French and English. It includes a local guide, but does not include hotel pickup and drop-off, food and drinks, or snorkeling gear. The itinerary will depend on the weather conditions. It is important to arrive at the local partner's office at least 15 minutes before the stated starting time.

As always when being out in the sun it is recommended to wear sunscreen, a sunhat and sunglasses. Wear swim wear.

Palancón: Canyoning Day Trip

This family friendly excursion is a 3-hour long canyoning adventure that takes place in the heart of Sierra Nevada and Arroyo del Palancón national park, approximately 1,5 hour drive from Almeria. Transport from Almeria is not included.

It is suitable for all types of visitors, including children, as it includes jumps, slides and rappels and is full of fun. It takes place in a ravine in the vicinity of the port of La Ragua, at 1,700 meters above sea level. The scenery is beautiful and serene and it will embrace you as you climb and slide. The alpine ravine is excavated in the typical Sierra Nevada schist and slate, with the green mosses and ferns contrasting against the black rocks.

There are several picnic areas located only 5 minutes from the beginning of the ravine, where participants can enjoy a picnic meal before, or after, the excursion (not included in the price).

The guides speak Spanish and English. Necessary equipment, photos,water and soft drinks are included in the price.

The adventure is not suitable for pregnant women or people with mobility impairments. Pets are not allowed to join.

Please make sure to bring comfortable shoes, swimwear, a change of clothes and a towel.

Tabernas: Tabernas Desert Nighttime Horseback Ride

This tour is suitable for participants that have at least some experience of riding outside of an enclosed area, but for those who do it is an exciting experience.

The excursion departs from a ranch in the town of Taberna where participants will get introduced to their horses and receive some safety instructions.

The journey will set off through a moonlit desert landscape led by a designated guide. During the peaceful ride there is plenty of stargazing to be done while immersing yourself in the moment while the horse trots through the cool nighttime sands of the nocturnal desert. The guide will stop at spots picked by the guide to take in the dramatic and peaceful experience even further.

Once back at the ranch participants get to take a picture with the horses and toast the experience with a glass of cava. There is an optional opportunity to stay around and help with the animals, or, if a picnic was brought, enjoy a meal in the relaxing area of the ranch.

The instructor, helmet, back protection, headlamp, a glass of cava and snacks are included in the price. Transport to the ranch and water are not included.

This excursion is not suitable for pregnant women, children under the age of 18 or for people over the age of 65 or over 110 kg/243 lbs.

Please bring water, a jacket (as the desert gets cold at night), comfortable, closed-toe, sports shoes, and long pants.

Full-Day Western Theme Park Tour of Mini Hollywood (Oasys)

Located in the Tabernas Desert is a Western Theme Park called Oasys, formerly known as Mini Hollywood. Originally the park was used as a western film set, but has since been transformed into a Wild, Wild West wonderland in the middle of a Spanish desert.

The tour begins with a pickup by coach transfer from a meeting point in Almeria, Aguadulce, or La Envia Golf. A guide will be sharing knowledge during the transfer, but once in the theme park there is no guide.

Visitors can explore the Zoological Reserve, visit the Cactus Garden, swim in the pools, experience entertaining performances of the former hard life of the far west, including how the Sheriff intervenes in a bank robbery or perhaps a Can-Can dancing show, or relax in the bars and restaurants.

The coach transfer will head back in the afternoon and all in all the adventure will be approximately 8 hours long from pickup to drop-off.

Coach transfer, guide during transfer, entrance fee to the park, a map of the park, the Cowboy show, the Can-Can show, the Parrot show, access to the zoo, Western Village and Cactus Garden, as well as travel insurance are all included in the price. Food and drink and a guided tour of the Theme Park are not included.

Pets and food are not allowed.
